What causes sewer and drain backups?
When a sewer, septic or any other drain backs up, the first question most homeowners have is why? Until we restore the flow in the drain and send our state-of-the-art drain line inspection camera down the line, we won’t know for sure. But here are some of the most common causes of backed-up drains:
Use- Over time, grease and gunk sticks to the walls of the pipes inside your home. When this build-up gets thick enough, it can cause the pipe to completely stop up.
Roots- Roots in sewer and drain pipes are a very common occurrence in Stanwood and the surrounding areas. This is because many old sewer and drain pipes are made of clay and cast iron which allow very fine roots to enter at joints or through cracks. When this happens, the roots find a great source of water and nutrients! As the root mass grows and grows, it can block the entire line. Dapper Plumbers are experts at root removal, providing long term solutions to root related sewer and drain problems.
Cracks and Breaks- Septic and sewer piping can crack and break for many reasons. Regardless of the cause of the issue, when cracks and breaks develop the water, toilet paper, and waste no longer has a smooth pipe to flow through. When this happens, the drain starts to back up. Dapper Plumbing can inspect your sewer system and detect even the smallest crack or break in the system.
